The experimental short film was shot using a roll of Kodachrome film that expired in 1978. For many experts, Kodachrome is the film material with the most beautiful colours ever produced. The film had been available on the market since 1935 and was discontinued in 2009 after more than seven decades. Since 2010, it has no longer been possible to develop Kodachrome colour film because the chemicals required for this are no longer produced. Since then, exposed Kodachrome film material can only be developed as black-and-white negatives. Therefore, all Kodachrome film reels are currently grey and will remain so. The film ‘Everything is and remains grey’ shows a busy city street (the Vienna Gürtel) in Vienna. For decades, there have been no real initiatives on the part of the City of Vienna to curb traffic here. During filming, nine different recording speeds (10, 12, 8, 20, 24, 25, 32, 40 and 50 frames per second) were combined with nine different field sizes. The same number of metres of 16 mm film material was used for each shot, resulting in different lengths for the nine shots. Due to the artistic experimental setup, the cars come closer and closer and also become faster and faster.  Everything is and remains grey here as well.
