anywhere
Austria 2026
A film by Karl Wratschko
Duration: 2 minutes 28 seconds
Shooting format: 16mm
Screening format: 16mm & DCP, colour, silent
A
recently extended tram line runs through a newly developed
neighbourhood. Filmed from the tram window, the shots focus on the
houses built along the route. For this, a 16mm film reel of the
Kodachrome 40 type was used, with an expiry date dated to 1978. Since
2008, this film stock can only be developed in black and white because
the chemicals needed for color processing are no longer available.
However, the film produced after the B&W development is not
black-and-white, but instead has a monochrome blue tint. As a result,
“Anywhere” evokes viraged phantom rides, the kind often filmed in the
early days of cinema. Unlike those examples, the shot here was not
filmed from the usual driving perspective, but rather from that of a
classic tracking shot.
